As previously speculated, Javier Ribalta has now officially left Olympique de Marseille.
The club from Marseille released a statement on Wednesday evening announcing an internal restructuring, including changes in its Directorate, and confirming the departure of their Director of Football. This decision followed Javier Ribalta stepping back after a tense meeting with supporter groups that took place on September 18th.
Presided over by Pablo Longoria and previously consisting of four members, the Directorate will continue its mission to profoundly transform the club without the contribution of Javier Ribalta. The club expressed its gratitude for Ribalta’s dedication and professionalism during his time with Olympique de Marseille.
Pedro Iriondo, standing alongside President Pablo Longoria, will continue to serve as a member of the Directorate in charge of Strategy and Development. Similarly, Stéphane Tessier, also a member of the Directorate, will take on the role of General Director of Olympique de Marseille. His responsibilities will encompass five key areas: Operations, Business, Administration and Finance, Communication, and Sports. The sports department will be strengthened when the Directorate determines the ideal profile.
Pablo Longoria, the President, expressed, « The many discussions we’ve had in recent weeks have initiated a long process of reflection and planning, leading to the evolution of our sports and administrative organization in the best interests of the club and its stakeholders. With this development, the unwavering support and involvement of our shareholder, Frank McCourt, we will continue our work with determination and confidence. We’ll analyze, consult, transform, and consolidate the club at the highest level to live up to the history and ambitions of Olympique de Marseille. »
