FC Barcelona seems poised to part ways with Xavi. Relations between the coach and president Joan Laporta have soured following Xavi’s recent statements.
Despite his stay in April, Xavi is unlikely to remain as Barcelona’s coach next season. According to Catalan media, President Joan Laporta has decided to end their collaboration. This decision, first reported by Catalan radio RAC1 and confirmed by several newspapers, indicates that Xavi is expected to leave his position at the end of the season.
Laporta’s anger is said to be fueled by recent disappointing results and Xavi’s comments on the club’s financial situation. Xavi had notably stated before a match that the economic situation made it difficult to compete with rivals. These remarks evidently did not sit well with Laporta, and Xavi could be dismissed by the end of the season.
To replace him, names like Sérgio Conceição, Hansi Flick, and Rafael Márquez are circulating. Márquez, in particular, a former player for the club and current coach of the reserve team, is considered the favorite for continuity. Additionally, he would be less costly in terms of salary compared to his competitors, which could work in his favor.
