Manchester United has announced the long-term unavailability of their Argentine defender Lisandro Martinez (25 years old) due to an injury he reportedly suffered in April.

This comes as a blow to Erik ten Hag, who had just steered the Red Devils to victory in their recent Premier League matches (1-0 against Burnley) and the League Cup (3-0 against Crystal Palace), whom they are set to face in the league this Saturday.

The exact duration of Martinez’s absence has not been specified. Furthermore, the club’s statement also confirms the absence of Spanish left-back Sergio Reguilon (26 years old) for the upcoming match against the Eagles.

“Lisandro Martinez will be out of action for an extended period due to an aggravation of the foot injury he suffered in April. The Argentinian defender experienced the setback in our Premier League game against Arsenal earlier this month. Martinez bravely continued playing for the following two games against Brighton & Hove Albion and Bayern Munich. But it has now been determined that he needs a period on the sidelines for recovery and rehabilitation. Assessment is ongoing to decide next steps. Everyone at Manchester United sends Lisandro our best wishes and looks forward to him coming back as soon as possible”, the statement reads.
