Earlier this year, allegations of child abuse were made against Son Woong-jung, the father of Tottenham’s captain, following complaints from the parents of a young footballer.

Son Woong-jung, father of Tottenham captain Son Heung-min, has been fined €2,030 by a South Korean court for child abuse. He will also be required to attend courses on the subject.

The conviction came after parents accused Son’s football academy of mistreatment, claiming their son was struck by coach Son Heung-yun, the brother of the Spurs striker, and verbally abused by Son Woong-jung during training sessions.

Son Woong-jung, his other son Son Heung-yun, and a third person were each fined three million won for violating South Korea’s child protection laws. The Chuncheon District Court also ordered them to complete 40 hours of education on child abuse. This ruling follows their indictment on August 30. Son Woong-jung issued an apology, stating that his academy’s coaching staff never acted against the children’s best interests.
