On Monday night, the 2023 Ballon d’Or is expected to be awarded to Lionel Messi for his performance at the World Cup with Argentina.

Despite Erling Haaland’s exceptional season with Manchester City and Kylian Mbappé’s performance with PSG, it is Messi who will once again receive the Ballon d’Or on Monday night. While he had publicly supported Messi’s victory, Manchester City’s manager, Pep Guardiola, now appears to have changed his mind and is also endorsing his Norwegian forward.

“I have a lot of affection for Messi and Haaland. If Messi wins, it will be a fair victory because of the World Cup. If Haaland wins, it will be fair based on the season he had. They should give out two awards this year! They both deserve to win,” Pep stated on Sunday.
